ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO 1

Module Coordinator : Ar. Lim Wey Shan

Tutor : Ms. Raihana Zainuddin

Architectural Design I (ARC60208) is a course that introduces students to the field of architectural design. This preliminary design module attempts to exhibit and explain design in terms of tectonics through the expression of 'self' and body perception, construction, and materiality. The essential methodologies, principles, and approaches in design thinking and basic spatial design will be introduced through a series of studio-based exercises and tasks. Understanding anthropometrics and building intrapersonal space with creative exercises using the user's body movements and experiences are also included.

Project 1

With the title Expressions through Architecture Design Elements and Principles, we were introduced to a basic understanding of architectural design elements and principles, processes, and approaches in generating ideas, developing design, creating geometric 2D artworks (tattoo stamp), and transforming them into 3D form (model).

Project 2

In this project, we were introduced to a variety of materials in order for us to grasp their nature and features better, as well as how we should use it in our designs. To form the standing structure, we must combine the design goal (from Project 1) with anthropometry and ergonomics.

Project 3

In this project, we expand on our isolation structures in project 2 to create a Sensory Space (20m3, +- 3m3) that anticipates and accommodates our wants and feelings.
