ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY AND THEORY

A historical examination of the evolution of Ancient architecture into Western architecture from the dawn of time through the Age of Enlightenment, taking into account the intellectual, artistic, technological, political, and economic influences that influenced architectural design. These concerns are examined using notable modern cases as well as the work and philosophy of key proponents.
The lectures will provide in-depth explanations of the major events in the early world, from antiquity to the Revolutionary War, and up to the current day. Buildings will be discussed in relation to prominent modern examples as well as the work and philosophy of key proponents. Students will conduct extensive research on a noteworthy structure, including an examination of the primary elements that influenced its development and, as a result, its influence on other architectural characteristics.
Project 1
In this project, on a chosen building, the student will do research and architectural study. Each student will choose five buildings from a list provided. Students may also select their own historical structures with the lecturer's permission. The buildings are divided into Pre Historic, Ancient Egyptian, Ancient Greece and Rome, Middle Ages and Renaissance, Age of Enlightenment which indicates different periods of time.
Project 2
This study project uses document analysis methodology, which entails documenting, evaluating, generating, and interpreting Modern Malaysian architecture history in a critical chronological and diagrammatical manner. This research focuses on critical examination of Malaysian architecture post-Merdeka/Independence in order to better comprehend the post-modernist impacts on architectural design and construction, building science and technology, and urban design. The goal of the project is to show how many different elements influence the evolution of modern Malaysian architecture. Active debate, analysis, interpretation, and consultation with the instructor will all be part of the project's growth.
