BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS

This module introduces various types of building materials commonly being used in building construction together with its properties and applications. We will also develop an understanding on building elements and knowledge on basic construction process.
Project 1
In this project, we were assigned to do a case study on a building designed by a well-known architect, and we have to name five architectural and two structural construction materials. It is necessary to do a thorough investigation of the theories, ideas, and properties of the selected construction materials in order to finish this project. Two A3-sized pieces of paper must be used to present the results compilation. I seleccted the Beijing Daxing Airport for this assignment.
Project 2
In this project, we were assigned according to our AD2 group, we have to present our understanding of the construction details of building components using manual drawings and research. In order to better understand and comprehend the close connection between design and technical knowledge, we are required to investigate, apply, document, and explain the detailing of building elements on superstructures as well as the construction process of a building based on the floor plan chosen. A collection of construction drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, detailed drawings, and sketches with the appropriate specifications, symbols, and proportions, were produced by the 5 of us using the resources given after we settled on a floor plan for a timber building.
